He has recently been promoted from the England under 21 team to the senior squad.

He has been on loan at wolves of recent and anyone that is anyone has had nothing but good words of encouragement to say about Mancienne. He is obviously doing something correct in order to attract the attention of Fabio Capello.

There is a similarity between him and Rio Ferdinand both in his attitude and also his style of play. He reads the game very well indeed

The Chelsea centre back that has had a recent spell out at Wolves is a rare talent and has been praised as one of the best players that has graced the pitch as one of Stuart Pearce’s under 21 team. He will hopefully make an appearance against Germany on Wednesday.
It was not written in stone or blood that the young man was going to play for England as he has connections with the Seychelles. He declined their offer to play for them in his younger years though, opting to pledge his international career to England.

There is always going to be a dispute in the caucuses of football when a 20 year old is picked to play for England and has no top flight experience. This is indeed the case with young Michael Mancienne.

It has been a topsy turvy couple of months for the defender who one minute was getting loaned out to first division Wolverhampton Wonderers, and the next was being called into the England squad to face Germany.

There is certainly no argument from England Captain John Terry who is of the opinion that Mancienne more than warrants his place in the squad, referring to him as “A great talent” and “Amazing.”

As aforementioned his inclusion has shocked and surprised certain members of The football fraternity. Anyone that knows the score though will be aware that it is no more than what the young man deserves.

He was just nine when he was noticed playing for Kingstonian and he made his reserve debut for Chelsea while still learning in school. He signed a contract for the club while Jose Mourinho was still the manager.

He was really a cut above when playing in the reserve games so when John Gregory was given the opportunity to sign him on loan that is exactly what he did.

Gregory managed Aston Villa and Derby and was the QPR manager for a year while Mancienne was there. He played Mancienne as a right back but feels he is more suited as a central defender:

After rejecting the offer of representing the Seychelles (his family moved to the UK three years before his birth), Mancienne captained the England Under 18s before he was called up by Pearce last year.
Michael Mancienne
Mancienne helped England U-21s qualify for the 2009 European Champs

And with a month remaining on his loan period at Wolves, manager Mick McCarthy says Mancienne has been a huge factor in helping his team to a six-point lead at the top of the Championship.

But is he good enough to make the international grade?

McCarthy thinks so, saying Mancienne was “ready” for the next step up, claiming his senior call-up is just part of a “natural progression”.

Gregory sees no reason why Mancienne will not earn many England caps, comparing his situation to a similar baptism of fire for Gareth Barry when he was introduced to the senior set-up aged 17.

“If you look at him play you see there’s a Rio Ferdinand there…He’s got a very supportive family and he’s got a fantastic future.”

With injury forcing Rio Ferdinand’s absence on Wednesday, Aston Villa’s Curtis Davies and Everton’s Joleon Lescott in the squad, and the likes of excluded Jonathan Woodgate in good form for Spurs, competition for the England centre-half spots is hot.

If Mancienne’s development continues as it has done, his club career may make a few twists and turns, but as far as his international duties are concerned, there seems to be no turning back.

Not least of all because he has been called up to the England squad by Fabio Capello to play against Germany this coming Wednesday. He is 20.

In spite of Mancienne’s supreme talent the yourg man has not had things go as according to plan as one may expect from a boy that was signed to Chelsea at the age of just 9. he signed a contract with them in 2006 but as of yet has not done anything more for the club than appear on the bench.

At the moment he is making a name for himself while on loan at Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Chelsea seem happy to send the young man out on loan in order for him to get what they perceive to be as valuable match experience. He has spent the best part of two seasons at QPR and even one an award there for runner up young player of the year. He really has made some impact with none other than John Gregory describing him as a bright star of the future for both club and country.

It was last month that Mancienne went out on loan to Wolverhampton and is said to be somewhat frustrated by the fact that he is not being given a chance at senior level by his club.

He previously rejected an offer to play for the Seychelles where he has roots and preferred instead to opt for playing with his native England.

The exciting opportunity than Mancienne has been given to be included in the England squad will give him the opportunity to rub shoulders with some of his favourite players.

It was a case of getting to speak to some of the first team players on occasion while at Chelsea. It was not a regular thing though and so he will be looking forward to doing so as part of the England squad.

John Terry feels that Mancienne is extremely good and that he has a really good future ahead of him. “We’ve got a lot of players at Chelsea and he’s been eager to go out and prove that he’s good enough. Stuart Pearce was saying that he’s been the best player in the Under-21s. His form has been fantastic for Wolves. He’s got a bright future.”

“When you go out on loan you have to stand on your own two feet and deal with things,” Terry added. “We sent him up there on his own to let him get on with it. If he can play football regularly for Wolves and other big clubs then he has got a chance to come back and do it at Chelsea.” This is also what John Terry said.

So basically its top marks all round for Mancienne and he has a bright future ahead of him. Hopefully he will get a run out against Germany

It has been a while since some shock England call up really surprise everyone and that’s exactly what has happened with Fabio Capellos inclusion of Michael Mancienne.

He’s been on loan to Wolverhampton Wanderers from Chelsea and although he is yet to play a single game in the premier league he will travel to Berlin with the England squad that is to face Germany this coming Wednesday.

In a brief interview Mancienne stated “It is the dream of every boy to play for their country and it is fantastic to be in the squad. I was focused on being in the Under-21 squad so this was great news. It will be a fantastic game to be involved in and just being around the squad will be superb.”

The centre back is twenty and is also more than capable of playing at right back. He has an elagance that is not always seen in defensive players and a contolled comfort while on the ball. He has always been promising but there is still an element of surprise in relation to him being selected for the senior side.

It has been stated that his call up is in spite of Rio Ferdinand having to pull out with Capello insisting that Mancienne was going to be in the squad regardless. It is all part of a plan that Capello is implementing which involves getting the under 21 players experienced at senior level.

Capello said “I want to know them better,” and “It is possible that one of them can play. But I want to get to know the players, during the camp over two days.”

Mancienne is happy about the fact that there will be other Chelsea faces in the squad that he is used to, and admits that he regards John Terry as somewhat of a role model. He is not reliant upon this but feels that it will allow him to settle into the squad slightly better.

It was as a child growing up in Isleworth that a pre double figures Mancienne was spotted by now premiership giants Chelsea. He was playing for his local side Kingstonian and showed an irrepressible talent even at the age of 9. subsequently his progress was punctuated by a greater rapidity than the others and her soon staked his claims to places in all England youth levels and for the Chelsea reserves. In the two seasons that he was loaned to QPR he made 58 appearences and had a profound impact. He has been compared to Franz Beckenbauer which really is a plaudit.
